Which language will gain dominance after English?

A language can become global based on the advancement in certain elements ; such as science, technology , culture, military, etc . If a nation acquires supremacy in these ,there is a tendency for them to export their culture and technology through the medium of their language. The American English is popular and widely used now because they are advanced these elements. In the middle ages when Muslims where advanced in science and technology;Arabic  was the dominant language of
learning .Greek and Latin languages have had their turns . I wonder which language will gain dominance after English?

Let’s take one of the given language which may become global as I think which Arabic language.Yassir Ammisse describe the Arabic langauge situation in his article by saying that”We must recognize the great value of this language, it is the mother tongue for more than 250 million Arabs, most of them are from Morocco in the west and Iraq to the east, Muslims look to classical Arabic as a sacred language.

Everyone understands that Arabic is the language of the Koran. The Quran has kept the purity of that language in the eyes of Muslims.

The Arabic language is changed somewhat over the years and why the Qur’an has remained a source of language by the educated Arabs who are able to read Arabic that was written over a thousand years before.

The Arabic language was developed in the last decade to include new words and expressions such as new technical terminology. The translation of European literary works especially accelerate this development and this creates a conflict between the classic contest the adoption of foreign words in the language and as long as the modernists want to break old traditions, such as the journalistic approach to the Scripture, this method has been developed to suit this new method and often influence each style of Western media. The classics have focused on the formation of new words which have a pure Arabic to cover new vocabularies, eg the word (haatif) was adopted to signify the word (phone), the Western version (talifun) is still in use. Ilya Other changes include the loss of many of the old terminology especially these on everyday life. This was due to the rapid decline in numbers of Bedouins and the domination of a life that is more urbanized and more stable.

The Arabic language and the modern world

I also would like to add something important . Muslims around the world come from all nations around the world ,they didn’t find difficulty to recite the Holy Quran .The language used in The Holy Quran is Arabic .It means all human can learn Arabic language easily .I  can say that” Arabic langauge is the easiest language around the world “.

Any comment will be received gratefully .

Judging From Students’ Perspective

It is not enough to just teach our students without knowing their feelings and expectations. What should we do in order to know some of the difficulties our students encountering in learning ? What I mean by this is that we might find some of our students asking : “ How we wish our teacher knows  difficulties that we are going through ?” so how can we put ourselves in the shoes of our students so to speak , for us to be able to penetrate their feelings and know what they expect of us . This means judging from the students’ perspective.

Emerging from this, as teachers  we should find ways of knowing students feelings and expectations as these will definitely enforce the teaching process .I would like to focus on teaching English as a foreign language . We should deal with this situation from two perspectives:

Firstly , What a teacher who is a native English speaker should know ?

Secondly , What a teacher who is a non-native English speaker should know ?

Having said this , if I am an Arab ,I should be able to know what difficulties my Arab students are encountering when learning English from the point of view of structural and grammatical differences between the two languages. This is where tolerance in teaching  plays a great role. Instead of getting mad at your students when they make mistakes as result of language differences you can easily find a polite way of correcting their mistakes and difficulties.

Likewise, a native speaker who is teaching English to Arabs for instance, should learn some differences of the two languages and some aspect of the culture may also help. If possible, attempting to learn the native language of your students will help you reach them more easily.

Furthermore, setting up discussion forums with your students may help you know their feelings, difficulties and expectations. You can also make a survey by giving them questionnaires , this way you can acquire valuable information that may enhance your teaching.

The effect of Punctuality

The role of the teacher in a classroom is very significant; therefore it must be executed with excellence.Emerging from the issue, led me to contemplate the virtue of punctuality on the part of the teacher. I have personally observed the advantages of coming to class early. I will be discussing some of these in this article.

Maintaining Order and discipline-

If a teacher enters the class early, this will prevent trouble some students from carrying out their disturbances. This is good because the teacher will immediately go ahead with the day’s lesson without the need to focus on maintaining order and discipline. Furthermore, it is to the teacher’s advantage because the feelings of relaxation before the commencement of the lesson will
eventually enhanced productivity.

Time saving-

Imagine the syllabus that must be completed before the end of the semester and to allow for revision and exams; all these require enough time. If the teacher is not smart enough to be organized and punctual, valuable time will be wasted. So punctuality and good time management will produce a class that is well focused and organized and in this way, the target of the semester or the academic year will be achieved.

Excellent Role model-

By being well organized and punctual, the teacher would have set an excellent example for the students to follow. In addition, it would send a positive signal to the students of what is expected of them from the beginning. This makes control easier and the pace of teacher-success would have been in motion.
